POSITION DESCRIPTION: Registered Nurse 2 (Community) are registered professional nurses who
provide, oversee, coordinate, and evaluate nursing and health related care and treatment services for
individuals in community settings. Incumbents serve as members of interdisciplinary treatment teams;
represent and provide expertise on the nursing aspects of treatment plans and services; and provide
nursing services to individuals diagnosed with developmental disabilities.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provides clinical case management and professional nursing care to a caseload of individuals in a
community setting.
Monitors family care providers and develops partnerships with local providers.
interventions in the event of a crisis.
May supervise and counsel lower-level staff and participate in facility staff development and teaching
programs and committees.
Other duties as assigned by RN Supervisor or Director of Nursing.
Caseload will include healthcare management of Individuals residing in State Operated sites (IRA’s
and/or family care setting) and/or Day Habilitation nursing oversight

Minimum Qualifications
Applicants must possess a license and current registration as a registered professional nurse in New York State; and two years of post-licensure clinical nursing experience. One year of this experience must have been providing direct services to individuals diagnosed with mental illness, developmental disabilities, addiction, or substance use disorders in a community setting.
Substitution:
A bachelor's degree in nursing may substitute for one year of general post-licensure clinical nursing experience; and a master's degree in nursing may substitute for two years of general post-licensure clinical nursing experience.

This title is part of the New York Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide Program (NY HELPS). HELPS Program titles may be filled via a non-competitive appointment. This means that you do not need to take an exam to qualify, but you do need to meet the minimum qualifications of the title.
At a future date (within one year of permanent appointment), employees hired under NY HELPS are expected to have their permanent non-competitive employment status converted to permanent competitive status. You will not have to take an exam to gain permanent competitive status.
° Thirteen (13) days of paid vacation leave initially.
° Five (5) days paid personal leave each year.
° Thirteen (13) days of paid sick leave each year (PEF/CSEA), which may carry over from year to year.
° Up to three (3) days professional leave each year to participate in professional development events.

- Visits individuals in community settings to assess care, evaluate individuals’ physical and mental status,

- Posted Hiring Salary includes the sum of the statutory hiring rate for PS&T Grade 20 ($74,193), Increased Hiring Salary ($9,980) and Geographic Pay Differential ($20,000). Geographic Pay Differential is added to the job rate ($94,121).
- If you are currently a New York State employee serving in a permanent competitive qualifying title and eligible for a transfer via Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law, you may be appointed to this title as a permanent competitive employee.
- The assignment of PS&T employees will be made in accordance with any agreed upon Memorandum of Understanding between PEF and the local DDSO regarding the posting of job vacancies.
