Position Description

Job Summary: We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Registered Nurse (RN) to join our team in providing high-quality healthcare services to individuals with developmental disabilities under the Office for People With Developmental Disabilities (OPWDD). The RN will be responsible for ensuring the health, safety, and well-being of our clients, administering nursing care, and collaborating with interdisciplinary teams to promote the overall health and independence of individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct comprehensive health assessments for individuals with developmental disabilities, identifying medical conditions, needs, and potential risks.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor individualized healthcare plans (IHP) for each client, coordinating care with medical providers and the interdisciplinary team.
  • Administer medications, treatments, and therapies in accordance with medical orders and established guidelines.
  • Monitor and document vital signs, medication administration, and any changes in health conditions.
  • Provide education and training to clients, families, and staff about health management, medication administration, and preventive care.
  • Ensure that health and safety protocols are followed, including infection control and emergency response procedures.
  • Advocate for the health needs of individuals and assist in making referrals to specialists, as necessary.
  • Collaborate with physicians, case managers, and other healthcare professionals to ensure comprehensive care for individuals.
  • Offer direct care and support to individuals during medical appointments, treatments, and procedures.
  • Perform routine and emergency medical procedures, such as wound care, catheterization, and the administration of injections.
  • Ensure accurate and up-to-date documentation of nursing assessments, interventions, and outcomes in client medical records.
  • Participate in training programs to stay current on OPWDD regulations, medical best practices, and nursing competencies.
  • Act as a resource for staff, answering questions and providing guidance on medical care and concerns.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of health-related policies and procedures.

Qualifications:

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in New York State.
  • Experience in nursing, preferably in working with individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities or within the OPWDD system.
  • Strong knowledge of nursing practices, medical terminology, and health and safety regulations.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work effectively with individuals with developmental disabilities and their families.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team environment.
  • Compassionate, patient, and dedicated to providing high-quality care to individuals with diverse needs.
  • Current CPR and First Aid certification.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
